SATURDAY, JUNE 18TH – TRAVEL FROM HOF, GERMANY TO LINZ, AUSTRIA:
Not a lot of excitement today. Met my friend Silvia for breakfast at 9 am. Lots of “fans” from the night before having breakfast and asking the Bellamy Brothers for autographs and photos while they were eating. I got another migraine while we were having breakfast!
Bus departed at 11 am and our driver was once again a smoker. I think it’s mandatory for bus drivers to be smokers in Germany! He wanted to stop 30 minutes after we left but I convinced him to keep driving until he HAD to stop which would be 3 hours and 30 minutes after we left. He didn’t speak or understand English very well.
I was able to work using my T-Mobile Hot Spot and battery power on my laptop. I tried to make the driver understand that we wanted to stop at a restaurant but just could not get through to him. He stopped at a “gas station” and we both some snacks. We only had another hour and a half to driver before arriving at the hotel in Linz.
Our promoter was supposed to meet us there but there was an accident in Vienna and his tram was diverted. He missed his train but made it in a few hours after us.
There was a very long line of people checking in at the hotel when we arrived. Again, supposedly COVID staff shortages. We made the mistake of eating at the hotel restaurant instead of walking the 15 minutes into town. The food was excellent but the service was terrible. Only 2 people working and one of those was “new”. Three hours after we arrived in the restaurant, I finally paid the bill and left! Had the second migraine of the day during dinner. NEVER have two in one day….
Got in a lot of work tonight so feeling less stressed!

SUNDAY, JUNE 19TH – PERFORMANCE IN LINZ, AUSTRIA:
Very hard to tell which day of the week it is anymore! Did my half hour of stretches and then “hit the street” for a longer than anticipated run. I ran down to the City Center and then started taking photos on my way back. Ended up running 3.5 miles instead of 3 miles. It was HOT at 8 am, too!
Had breakfast with most of our group. I had them make me an omelet but they couldn’t put spinach in it. But there was a big plate of fresh spinach on the buffet. Strange. Regardless, it was an amazing breakfast bar.
Showered and got ready to go to sound check at 1:45 pm. However, Jurgen (our promoter) called to say that the backline company that was driving in from Vienna was stuck in a horrible traffic jam. We delayed sound check to 2:45 pm but since it’s the same equipment as the other Austria shows, sound check went quickly. Our friends – Silvia and Michael Stone – came in at the end of sound check. Michael is the acoustic opening act for this show and the show in Salzburg.
Several of us walked up to a Pizza restaurant and got food “to go” for dinner. I did not want to take a chance that it would take two hours for dinner in the hotel restaurant again tonight.
We only had one person for the Meet and Greet tonight and it was a big fan from The Netherlands. He brought us “stroopwafels”. My grandchildren will be so excited!!!!
The venue is right behind the hotel so were all able to walk over for the show. The place was PACKED once again and we had a very lively, enthusiastic audience – the BEST kind.
Leaving for Salzburg tomorrow – our last show in Austria. Sad that this part of the tour will be over. This is the first time I’ve worked with Jurgen and he’s been fantastic! Need to do lots more dates with him…..
