The Bellamy Brothers – Hof, Germany

THURSDAY, JUNE 16TH – AUSTRIA TO GERMANY:

Up at 6 am to get in a jog before we leave for Germany.  Weather is perfect – 60 degrees, no humidity.  There is a beautiful path along the river that runs for miles and miles.  I got in a great run along that path while most of Graz was still sleeping.  Helped to run off some of my frustration about not having WIFI last night at the hotel.

I snapped a couple of photos on the way back to the hotel.  Then showered and had an amazing breakfast before departing the hotel…another great omelet!

The tour bus picked us up on time and a man we had worked with previously had ridden down to escort us back.  He spoke perfect English and it’s a good thing because the tour bus driver only spoke and understood German.  It was a nice bus and they had put sandwiches, chips, cookies, cheese, candy, bread, drinks of all kinds on the bus for us.  Bad news is, there was no WiFi on the bus and no electrical plugs.  I could have easily used my T-Mobile hotspot for WiFi but was not able to work because there was no plug for my laptop.

Jurgen met us in the lobby to say good-bye and he said he did not have WiFi in his room either.  We told the front desk so that hopefully they will correct the situation for future guests!

We departed at 11 am and the drive was about 9 hours but would have been less if the driver had not stopped every hour to smoke a cigarette.  Still easier than flying!   We stopped for lunch and I had a great Currywurst.  Arrived at the hotel at around 8 pm and Kurt – our promoter – was waiting for us.  Got everyone checked in and we had to eat dinner because the last “seating” in the restaurant as for 9 pm.  I remember what excellent food this hotel had when we were here several years ago and they definitely still do!  I had wiener schnitzel again and it was just as good as the one I had last night in Austria.

At least the WiFi works great in my hotel room.  Have been working for hours now and it is after 2 am so time to get some sleep!

FRIDAY, JUNE 17TH – PERFORMANCE IN HOF, GERMANY:

Got almost 5 hours of sleep and went to the gym first thing to work out.  What a great gym it is for a “hotel”.  Had everything I needed plus some pretty “funky” weights.  Took photos so everyone on FB can see what I mean.

Showered and got a little work done before my dear friend Silvia Joiner arrived from Schweinfurt.  Silvia and I met when I was on a USO tour to Bosnia in 1996 and have been friends ever since.  It’s been 5 years since we last saw each other but we always pick right back up and it’s as though it’s only been a few days.

Sound check was delayed because the backline company was late arriving.  Silvia and I walked up to a pharmacist and while I didn’t get the cream I wanted, I did get some Arnica cream and pills for the huge bruises left on my leg by the Liechtenstein bed!  Still had a little time to kill before sound check so we sat in the lobby and talked for a while.  Once the backline company arrived, sound check went fairly smooth.

The hotel restaurant doesn’t open for dinner until 6 pm so Silvia and I walked about 20 minutes into the city of Hof.  I remember it well from jogging there on the last visit here.  There’s some good shops but we really didn’t have time to explore very much.  We wanted to be in the restaurant as soon as it opened because the service last night was very slow.

I had the Spargle soup (white asparagus) and Weiner schnitzel AGAIN.   Hey, when you find something that good, why take a chance on something different.  Thankfully I was so full from eating it that I couldn’t order the crème brulee again for dessert.  LOL.

We walked over to the venue at 8:00 for an 8:15 Meet and Greet with what was supposed to be around 10 people but quickly expanded.  Also, there was a big stack of posters that needed to be signed. Saw some long time friends of ours plus the radio personality who has been helping us promote the event.   We finally had to cut the M&G off so the guys could get ready for the show.

The venue was packed with a very enthusiastic crowd.  It was another great evening and the promoter was happy with the show.

Meeting Silvia at 9 am for breakfast and then departing to Linz, Austria at 11 am tomorrow morning.  Supposedly this will only be about a 4-4 ½ hour drive – depending upon how many “smoke” breaks the driver makes, I suppose!
